Art and Music/Theatre Program

Art 2Art 1

Every second and fourth Tuesday evening (6:00 pm-7:00 pm) of the month Seguin RCA conducts art classes for developmentally disabled persons.  The art classes are facilitated by a local artist.  Rather than teaching participants to paint or draw, they are given the materials and encouraged to express themselves.  Seguin RCA’s teaching method aims to stimulate imaginations and facilitate creativity.

Those participating in the art program show us that they are first, artists and second, individuals with a developmental disability.

Seguin RCA's No-Cost Music/Theatre Class

Every first and third Tuesday of each month from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Seguin RCA will be offering a music/theatre class.   The class is taught by Stephanie Browning.  In 2010, after a 20 year career as an international jazz singer based in Chicago, Stephanie discovered a new path.  It started as a volunteer at a sing-along.  Soon thereafter she was hired to bring music to an agency that serves over 100 adults with developmental disabilities.

Using ideas she has spent years researching and refining, she has created a set of tools and activities that present music in a very inviting, visual way.  The love of music fosters the drive to keep learning.  Even though it's very therapeutic, it doesn't feel like therapy, it feels like music bringing confidence, concentration, joy and success.
